Alpha Game - Pei Hwa Sec (17/05/09)

Times fly ... we played our 11th game for 2009 ...

Our strategy "Compact" derived from meeting on 16/05/09 failed to bring us the breakthrough result we hoping for...perhaps Captain needs to call for another meeting involving more players to come out with a refined "Compact 2" strategy.

First half 0:2 followed by 1:1 second half. Winger Spencer scored again and top the scorer list with 5 goals.

James was instrumental in his role as play maker but lack support and understanding with the frontline players to be more effective.

Players attended the game : Adrian, Alex, Casey, Chee Toong, Chin Sing, Grant, Kevin, Lim Yong, Richard, Siew, Simon, Spencer, Trevor, Wan. Guest : James, Kenny.

Scorer : Spencer

It was not the strategy that failed. It's more of the basics. Defending set pieces by man marking need to improve. Attacking and taking chances also failed us. I think we had 3 to 4 good chances and we only took one.

Thanks for the game. Peronsally, I enjoyed the game, knowing that everyone is trying their best to play as a team.

A point observed is that Kelvin (Stopper) may be playing a little too left yeterday to reinforce Siew and Grant in dealing with a stronger winger opponent. Unfortunately, that created more "gaps" in the center where we are weakest. Perhaps, we may consciously play in such a way where one of the center midfielder will skew the play more to the left to reinforce Siew and Grant instead so that Stopper can cover the center more.

There is a few plus points for this game. We pass the balls more though individual ball skill still lacking. I thought Siew switch play pretty well several times from left to right. This is one of Siew better game. I enjoyed the second half more with more compact play. The defence offside line "disintegrate" as the defenders stop play as a team. Tactically we should have sacrifice a player to man-mark their playmaker. Our attackers missed several good chances.

Finally things won't change overnight. Keep the faith...move the ball, play as a team with a slower pace will eventually bring the result.
